Twitter: Changing How News is Delivered
Twitter is a widely used platform that is used by businesses, politicians, and casual everyday people. It is an interface used for microblogging and is a popular social media site/app. Users can customize a profile and follow other users or categories of things that they like or may have an interest in. On the website, you can tweet, like, and retweet, you can also tweet at people and/or comment on other people’s tweets.
Twitter is a very useful tool for updating people on current events. In recent news, Twitter has been used for the recent election and spreading the campaigns of each participant. The site and the major news networks that use it were updating users on who was in the lead and eventually who won the election. A lot of people use Twitter as their news outlet because of how efficient and quickly things are shared.
Twitter has communicated and spread the word about the Black Lives Matter movement. Users were sharing information on the cause and how everyone can help and show their support. Informational posts were spreading around and are still being shared to make sure that this important movement stays in people’s thoughts, so people keep fighting for equality. Some of the posts that were being shared contained information on where rallies and protests were being held so that people could go and show their support.
The social media platform has been very helpful with the current pandemic, in the beginning, it helped notify people of the seriousness of the issue and how many cases there were, along with what the symptoms are. Twitter has helped share worldwide what individuals can do to keep safe during this time and is still updating everyone on new breakouts of COVID-19.
The focus of this Twitter project was to bring attention to camping and hiking hacks and information the viewer should know before planning their next camping trip. A few accounts that were followed were NY State Parks whose Twitter feed was filled with good information that helped me gain ideas on what I should be posting. Two other accounts I followed were Buffalo Bills PR, I am not that interested in sports so I choose to follow this account per the requirements of the projects because I would never have followed this account on my own, the last account I followed is Step Out Buffalo which was also beneficial to my own Twitter account and they had a lot of interesting posts that applied to Buffalo and getting outdoors.
This project brought awareness to the benefits of Twitter. It is a different form of blogging and compared to blogger, Twitter seems to be more laid back, it has a limit on how long the tweets can be, which in this current time is good because short posts are better at grabbing and keeping attention versus a long blog post that people will most likely skim through. This social media platform is a good way for businesses to connect with their customers and promote products, it is a norm for businesses to post multiple times and day or week on Twitter.
